Dr. Curtis received a BS in Chemistry and Mathematics from St. John Fisher College in 1978 and a Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Rochester in 1984. He then spent 2 years as a postdoctoral research associate at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, working on application of phase fluorimetry to the measurement of relaxation rates in gaseous mixtures. He joined Eastman Kodak Research Labs and worked for 10 years on various aspects of aging of photographic materials. These studies included the impact of high energy radiation on product performance, mechanisms of aging of film products both before and after exposure, and screening of new formulations for improved product stability. He also developed computer models to correlate accelerated test results with natural aging and models that allowed co-optimization of the product packaging with product features. Dr. Curtis also spent 10 years in Research Management as a laboratory head in the area of new materials for improved photographic product performance. As the corporation sought to better utilize corporate assets, his role expanded into market analysis and technology development of new precipitated materials. These materials were designed for diverse markets such as fuel additives, catalysts, batteries and antimicrobial treatments. On the launch of an antimicrobial fabric treatment, Dr. Curtis became responsible for marketing into this segment.
